SJ Mini League – Age 8-12  

SJ Kids football has introduced a competitive edge to their football sessions on Saturday nights. For the remaining Aldenham sessions of 2007, the kids in the age group 8-12 yrs old will be split up into teams every week and play a mini league format. The idea is to introduce a competitive edge to their football.  

The experience of playing in a mini league will give our young superstars ‘tournament like’ experience and the competitive edge to their matches will keep them focused on each game.  

This weekend – Saturday 24th Nov – It was team 2 (pictured to the right) who came out on top after the round of games. Starting off slowly, they lost their first game in the league, however, they re-grouped, got organised and went on a run that would make Fergie proud. Going on to win the remaining 5 games, the ended the league with 15 points, a clear 5 points ahead of the team in the number 2 spot.  

Age 8-12 Coach Munir commented after the league that the competitive nature brought out the best in the youngsters. The teams all kept their shape well, the passing is improving every week and the standard of play was very pleasing.

Age 5-7  

The popularity of these sessions has grown immensely over the past few weeks. This week saw around 20 players turning out for the session.  

Coaches Mumdu and Kumail have decided to take a new approach with this age group and are concentrating on drills that encourage the players to spend as much time with the ball as possible.  

Rather than just going straight in to games, focused drills and games are played in the beginning part of the session that all the players get used to the feel of a football, improve their passing and control of a football.  

A note to the parents, given the numbers we are now getting in this age group, from next week we will be starting the Age 5-7 category at the same time as the 8-12 category, 6.30pm.
