FERGIE’S FLEDGLINGS? WENGER’S KIDS? CHECK OUT SJ’S NEXT GENERATION OF TALENT!

If you come down to Aldenham on a Saturday night, you will see Stanmore Jafferys next generation of football talent. The enthusiasm and energy from the SJ kids is simply amazing. Having started Kids football sessions a year ago, the sessions have grown from strength to strength. The aim of Stanmore Jafferys has always been to provide a platform through sports for the youth of our community to come together and forge friendships. This is precisely the goal that has been driving SJ Kids football over the past year.
We currently run two sessions. The first is for age 8-12yr old boys. We really do have some talented young players in the community. What is great to see however is the attitude of the youngsters. They come to enjoy themselves and they play with a smile on their face. Whilst the emphasis is on enjoyment and making friends, the sessions also take in some serious football training.
The boys are taken through drills aimed at nurturing their natural talent, to improve their technique and to get them playing as teams. Following the drills, matches are played and this is where the boys really show what they are made of. Individually there are some really gifted players in this group, but collectively as a team, if they stay together, they will be simply awesome when they are old enough to play in the SJ Premier League!
In August 2007, Stanmore Jafferys entered the Mulla Asgher Memorial Tournament held in Peterborough. For quite a few of the youngsters, this was their first football tournament, and they really did SJ proud. Not only was the football on display arguably the best on show at the tournament, but the sportsmanship on display and togetherness of the youngsters really did set an example for all of SJ. It was great to see so many of the parents coming along to Peterborough to watch and really enhanced the feeling of being one large family! A family who play to win, and win is exactly what the boys did!!!!
Now onto the “next – next” generation talent. From the success of the Age 8-12 boys, SJ also runs a session for the youngest of our community. The Age 5-7 football sessions run in parallel with the older boys on Saturdays and it is this age group that will bring a smile to anyone’s face. The shorts generally come down to the ankles, sometimes players need to be reminded which way they are shooting, but that doesn’t stop these boys. They come every week with a smile on their face, bags of energy (Much more than their coach Mumdu!!!) and they simply love to play. Long may it continue.
